Meet Charley

If AARP had a membership available for dogs, Charley would be ready to sign up and get started on his second chance at a loving home and family. This sweet, happy, 10 year 7-month-old Chihuahua mixed breed little gentleman was an owner surrender who wants to enjoy his golden years surrounded by love. Charley weighs 10 pounds that is just perfect for napping on a lap. Despite his senior status, Charley adores going for walks and making new friends in his new surroundings. Children and other dogs make Charley a very happy canine. It is not known if he is comfortable with cats. Charley is already house trained and due to his experience as a pet who has been walking for years, leash training may just require some review and positive encouragement as he gets used to new people and places. Even a senior rescue dog like Charley may have accidents as he becomes accustomed to a new home, family and routines. If crate training is anticipated, Charley will be comfortable in a small crate so long as it gives him space to lie down, stand up and turn around. Crates should never be used for punishment and should be warm and cozy dens. There are so many things to love and cherish about senior dogs; they often form strong bonds with their new families as they are so grateful to become part of the pack. They bring all their life experiences with them to share with anyone they meet. Most of all, they are who they are, fully developed, at peace with themselves and ready to spend their twilight years loving and being loved.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Charley is $300. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.
