Meet King

King is a lovable, goofy boy with a heart as big as his personality. He may be sight-impaired, but don’t tell him that—he’s far too busy enjoying life, making friends, and perfecting the art of being a professional couch potato. Because King has limited vision, it takes him a little time to learn new surroundings and settle into a routine. Once he gets his bearings, though, he navigates surprisingly well and quickly becomes comfortable. And when that happens, you’ll discover a sweet, affectionate dog who pretty much loves everybody. King’s favorite activities include lounging on the couch with his people, exploring the fenced yard, enjoying treats, and eagerly anticipating mealtime. In fact, meal preparation is a full event in King’s world. His excitement is impossible to miss as he sploots on the floor, paddles his front legs, and lets out enthusiastic barks while waiting for his food to arrive. One of King’s most charming quirks is his signature grumble. When being picked up, having his harness put on, or sometimes even when receiving belly rubs, he may growl and grumble dramatically. It sounds much more serious than it is—he has never attempted to bite and is simply expressing himself in his own goofy way. Once you know him, you’ll quickly learn that the funny noises are just part of the King experience. King enjoys the company of other animals. He would love a playful dog companion closer to his own size, as he sometimes accidentally runs over very small dogs while navigating his surroundings. He also has a polite fascination with cats and seems convinced that someday they will agree to play with him. While he enjoys having animal friends, he does not require another pet in the home as long as his people are around much of the time. Despite only having one tooth left, King remains an enthusiastic eater and is always happy to sample treats and fruit. He has shown some interest in toys and may discover new favorites as his confidence continues to grow. Because of his limited vision, King can become nervous in overwhelming or chaotic environments. He also has some separation anxiety and prefers a home where someone is around much of the time. He can be vocal when excited, making him a poor fit for apartment living. King is truly one of those dogs who leaves a lasting impression. His sight impairment, funny grumbles, happy spirit, and endless affection don’t make him difficult—they simply make him unique. Beneath all of his quirks is an incredibly sweet, lovable, playful boy who wants nothing more than a soft couch, a loving family, and a place to belong. If you’re looking for a dog with personality, charm, and enough love to fill a house, King is ready to claim his throne in your heart. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there
