Meet Missy Zelda (FL)

Adoption Fee: $300 Missy Zelda is available for adoption. She is 9 years old and weighs about 9 pounds. She is in Gainesville, Florida. --- Missy Zelda was an owner surrender, her family was no longer able to take care of her. She came to us in rough shape, but she is better now and ready for the right family to adopt her. She is safe and very much loved in her foster home. --- Missy Zelda does have some long term health issues. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas, causing abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy). It can be triggered by high-fat foods or table scraps. It can be acute or chronic, and may require veterinary care, medications, or hospitalization if she has a flareup. She is stable now, but we have no way of knowing if she will relapse. She also has bad knees (luxating patellas). She can be seen occasionally favoring her left back leg, but it does not seem to bother her right now. Because of her age, we are not looking at surgery for her knees. She also has a heart murmur, grade 3 out of 6. For now we are monitoring it, but eventually she will probably need to be on heart medication. --- When she had her dental, she lost the 9 teeth she had, so she now has no teeth. She does just fine eating soft food. Because she has no teeth, her tongue hangs out of her mouth, and because of that she has a stained look on the right side of her nose. She also licks her feet, so they are stained as well. This is ongoing and will likely always be that way. Also, as yucky as it sounds, she will eat her poop. It can be hard to catch her, but we do our best. There is no real cure for this, the only thing that helps is picking it up right away. --- She is working on her house manners and will have accidents in the home. She was not trained by her previous owners, so she has a lifetime of doing what she wants. She will need patience and consistency. She also has an odd sound when she barks, it sounds more like a little quack. She still has a voice, and the vet does not think she has been debarked. --- We have seen that it can take several weeks for her to adjust to a new home. If you feel Missy Zelda would be a good fit for your family, knowing her health issues and her need for continued training, please fill out the online adoption application.
